"Following is a report of a pure water project
accomplished by three Hartford Rotarians, who could not have done
this alone. The help of several rural Guatemalan water
committee members on site was essential. A dozen or so
Hartford Rotarians gave pure water project financial contributions
totaling several thousand dollars, and the Hartford Club's Board and
membership were supportive over more than three years of planning
and execution. Suppliers of essential chlorine and fluoride
components gave equipment and supplies, and discounts on other
materials. The Mequon-Thiensville and Thiensville-Mequon
Rotary Clubs have sponsored an ongoing medical mission to rural
Guatemala involving Rotarians from a dozen or so clubs, and more
than 100 other volunteer medical and dental professionals and
support staff. They gave a context for this work, and
beautiful support on site and in planning. A Rotarian from
Middleton, WI, a former Rotary District Governor in Central America,
owns a cattle and fruit ranch in Oliveros where the medical mission
is held and the water tank and pipes are located, and he, his
family and his employees provided critical support in more ways than
we can even begin to say."

"If you now want to get a real flavor for
how this mission, or perhaps most missions of this type, was/were
accomplished, read the lead Rotarian's stream of consciousness
report on the following pages. It will give you a feel for the
facts that nothing occurs quite as planned, that spit happens, and
that the human relationships among missioners and with great people
of other countries and cultures is as important as clean water."
